Responsibilities

Representing the FYWP at university meetings

Updating syllabi, selecting textbooks for ENGL 1301, 1302, and 2311, and exploring ways to improve FYWP curriculum in consultation with faculty members, the department chair, and the college dean

Overseeing assessment of FYWP courses

Conducting observations and evaluations of faculty members teaching in the FYWP

Applying for internal and external grants to improve and innovate the FYWP curriculum, materials, pedagogical techniques, and FYWP faculty members

Providing on-going professional development to faculty teaching in the program

Helping to identify qualified adjuncts who can teach FYWP courses

Actively participating in department, college, and university initiatives

Qualification

Doctorate in RhetoricCompositionFirst Year Writing Program coordinationProfessional development leadershipTeaching English coursesCommunication skillsCollaboration skillsOrganizational skills

Required

An earned doctorate in Rhetoric and Composition, or English

ABDs will also be considered but must have earned a doctorate before appointment

Prior experience coordinating a First Year Writing Program or Writing Center

Prior experience developing and leading professional development sessions for faculty

The ability to teach the courses in the FYWP, as well as courses that support our English majors and minors, such as: Teaching of Composition, Writing in the Disciplines, and Advanced English Grammar
