Lead Financial Reporting Accountant (Hybrid)

Responsibilities

Prepare and/or assist in preparation and review of individual and consolidated financial information for KMI’s SEC Form 10-Q and Form 10-K reports, annual and quarterly GAAP financial statements:
Trial balances
Balance sheets
Income statements
Cash flow statements
Comprehensive income statements
Statements of retained earnings and owners equity
Guarantor financial statements
Financial footnotes
Management's discussion and analysis of financial condition and results of operations
Other financial schedules, reconciliations and financial information; and
Disclosure checklists
Assist in filing of Forms 10-Q, 10-K and 8-K reports through Wdesk software application including XBRL tagging assignments
Document all prepared report sections and assist with review of sections prepared and documented by others to department standards to meet Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
Stay abreast of emerging accounting pronouncements and SEC reporting developments to ensure compliance, including conducting peer research, as needed
Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve complex accounting issues, and document and present white papers for Financial Management and external auditors
Research and draft new disclosures and review new disclosures drafted by others
Perform complex analysis of individual entity and consolidation data with Excel utilizing Lawson/Essbase/Oracle’s Hyperion (HFM) inquiry tools
Perform month-end corporate level accounting reviews
Coordinate, track and drive team performance on cross-departmental projects
Contribute to reporting process improvements and lead initiatives to enhance reporting efficiency and effectiveness
Coordinate and interface with external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits

Required

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field is required
General understanding of the energy industry and familiarity with industry terminology
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in an accounting-related position with demonstrated leadership and management of SEC reporting processes
Extensive knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel)
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft software, including but not limited to: Excel, Access and Word
Self-motivated and proactive
Highly analytical and detail oriented, with the ability to identify potential disclosure issues and determine required disclosures from applicable US GAAP accounting guidance and/or SEC regulations
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize multiple simultaneous deadlines
Team player with the ability to work independently
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain relationships with cross functional teams
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to create well written financial footnotes that meet applicable disclosure requirements
Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance, including adhering to required work schedules and working non-traditional hours as needed
Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public
Other daily, weekly, monthly or special project duties as identified and defined

Preferred

CPA or Masters in Business a plus
Wdesk/Workiva or equivalent experience highly desirable
XBRL structure and tagging experience highly desirable
FERC financial reporting experience highly desirable
Experience with Lawson financial software, particularly the G/L module
Position may be filled at various levels, depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate
