Zoox is developing the first ground-up, fully autonomous vehicle fleet and is seeking a Thermal Attribute Engineer specializing in Heat Protection. In this role, you will develop innovative thermal solutions, lead simulations and testing, and ensure vehicle-level requirements are met while tracking thermal performance and reporting to leadership.

Responsibilities

Set vehicle heat-protection targets, communicate the vision, develop development plans, and lead cross-functional teams
Cascade requirements to subsystems, establish best practices, and integrate thermal considerations early
Lead heat-protection workstreams, support testing and validation, analyze risk data, and ensure milestone progress
Track fleet thermal performance, investigate incidents, report metrics, and drive continuous enhancements
Present updates on heat protection status, track issues, and report status to the wider vehicle attribute team
Track open issues and ensure progress to closure using Zoox systems (Jira, Confluence)

Required

BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
8+ years of experience in thermal engineering or heat transfer applications, and a strong understanding of passive thermal management techniques
Experience with thermal design and development, and vehicle-level testing and validation
Experience in component integration and attributes management, preferably within the automotive sector
Proficiency in thermal analysis tools and data analysis (Ansys Icepak)

Preferred

MS or PhD in relevant engineering discipline
Previous experience working in advanced or early concept phases
Familiarity with fleet data analysis and monitoring systems
Background in design for manufacturing and reliability
