Transmission Line Engineer II/III
Electric Power Engineers is focused on designing the grid of the future and is seeking a skilled Civil/Structural Engineer to join their team. The role involves the design and analysis of substation foundations, steel structures, and transmission towers while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support infrastructure projects in the power transmission and distribution sector.

Responsibilities
Design and analyze foundations for transformers, circuit breakers, and other substation equipment
Perform structural design and detailing of steel structures such as bus supports, gantries, equipment stands, and control buildings
Conduct geotechnical reviews to integrate soil data into foundation designs
Prepare detailed drawings, material specifications, and construction documents for substation civil/structural works
Perform seismic and wind load analysis for substation structures in compliance with applicable codes (ASCE, IEEE, and ACI)
Coordinate with electrical engineers to ensure optimal placement of equipment and cable trenches
Utilize PLS-CADD to model transmission line profiles, analyze line clearances, and design tower spotting
Design and analyze power pylons, including poles and lattice towers, for mechanical and structural integrity
Perform conductor tension analysis and verify compliance with sag/tension requirements
Develop foundation designs for transmission towers and poles
Ensure designs meet industry codes (NESC, AISC, and IEEE) and client-specific standards
Create and review drawings, BOMs, and construction packages for transmission lines
Conduct site visits to gather data, assess conditions, and support construction as needed
Perform load calculations, stress analysis, and structural optimization for substation and transmission line components
Collaborate with project managers, drafters, and other engineers to deliver projects on time and within budget
Conduct quality checks on designs and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
Provide engineering support during construction, including addressing RFI (Requests for Information) and field modifications
Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and changes to design codes and standards
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field
Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one within 12 months
3+ years of experience in civil/structural engineering, with a focus on substation and/or transmission line design
Proficiency in using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER for transmission line design
Experience in structural analysis software (e.g., STAAD.Pro, RISA, SAP2000)
Familiarity with substation design tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or MicroStation
Strong understanding of industry standards such as ASCE, ACI, AISC, NESC, and IEEE
Knowledge of soil mechanics, foundation design, and geotechnical principles
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred
Familiarity with GIS, LIDAR, and terrain modeling for transmission line routing
Experience with stormwater management and site grading for substations
Knowledge of permitting processes and environmental regulations
