Responsibilities

Assists library patrons in-person, via email, and over the phone in locating and accessing library resources
Staffs circulation/reserve desks and answers questions; directs patrons to library’s collections and refers to Librarian for more in-depth assistance; and performs related activities
Uses the library’s automated system to charge and discharge books and materials; check status of outstanding/delinquent items; and update students’ library account records
Assists patrons in using the on-line catalog and resources; reserves/schedules study rooms; and helps locate and retrieve books/materials
Processes inter-library loan requests by retrieving, packaging, and sending books/materials to appropriate CCC campus library. Notifies patrons of received loan requests
Searches stacks by call number for requested books; pulls and places books on hold for pick-up
Assists and offers guidance in the basic use of library equipment such as printers, photocopiers, scanning, and access to public computers
May provides guidance to work study students staffing the circulation/reserve desk
Conducts library walk-throughs to ensure space is used as a place of study and rules are followed
Assists with placing books on course reserve each semester. Places books in the appropriate order in the reserve section and returns books to general circulation as directed
Shelves new and returned books and materials; shelf reads to regularly maintain call number order; searches for mis-shelved items; and maintains overall orderliness of the library shelves
Shifts books and shelves and weeds materials out of circulation as directed by Librarians
Participates with taking inventory of the library collection
Prepares new books and materials for circulation; applies call number labels and pocket cards; places security tags; and stamps books and materials with library name
Scans bar codes and enters data to update library system with new acquisitions and deletes records of items weeded from the collection to maintain accurate records and update inventory
Mends and performs routine repairs on damaged books and materials
Assists in opening and closing library
Empties book drop and returns books/materials to circulation
Maintains routine records including daily gate counts; study room usage; and related library data
Troubleshoots and performs routine maintenance to printers and photocopiers
Assists in receiving and checking shipments of new books, materials and supplies against packing slips and invoices for accuracy and completeness of deliveries
Assists with setting up library displays and preparing signage
May assist with copy cataloging; locates and downloads bibliographic records from OCLC
May assist with preparing paperwork and processing intra-library loan requests as directed
May assist in the training of work study students and new Library Assistants as directed

Required

Graduation from high school or equivalency certificate (GED)
One year of general clerical or data entry experience
An equivalent combination of education and experience maybe taken into consideration
Must be able to demonstrate basic computer literacy
Knowledge of alphabetical and numerical organization of records/materials
Some knowledge of office and general clerical library procedures
Good oral and written communication skills
Customer service skills
Ability to learn and navigate library's on-line catalog and related library databases
Some skill in using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
