R&D Engineering Intern: Machine Learning Research
ATI is a global manufacturer of technically advanced specialty materials and complex components. They are seeking a highly motivated Master's or PhD student to join their Research & Development organization, focusing on the development and application of machine learning methods for image detection and multimodal AI systems.

Responsibilities
Develop and implement ML/AI models for image detection and classification of metallurgical microstructures and defects
Investigate and apply multimodal AI methods to integrate image, sensor, and process data
Design and maintain data pipelines for preprocessing, augmentation, and analysis
Collaborate with ATI engineers and researchers to translate computational results into practical insights
Document results and contribute to internal reports, presentations, and technical reviews
Qualification
Required
Currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD program in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field
Strong knowledge of machine learning, deep learning, and computer vision
Proficiency in Python and at least one major ML framework (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow)
Familiarity with multimodal AI and transformer-based models
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Preferred
Research experience applying ML/AI methods to image detection or vision-language tasks
Exposure to materials science concepts such as microstructure and alloy development (beneficial but not required)
Experience with large datasets and cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
Strong technical writing and presentation skills
