Material Inspection Project Manager

Responsibilities

Perform customer-related inspections, third-party inspections, and other quality assurance, procedures and control tasks
Organizes, coordinates, and manages activities of the inspection of specified material, projects, or customers, and plans and develops schedules for inspections
Oversee the inspection process that includes assigning responsibilities, evaluating field practices, training others on proper inspections, performing complex inspection assignments, and planning required examinations
Develops and maintains site operational policies and procedures pertaining to inspection practices and company compliance
Makes recommendations on best practices to ensure material is handled properly
Inspect a wide range of piping materials, including pipe, tubing, fittings, flanges, valves, gaskets, bolts, nuts, and more, manufactured to various material specifications
Document nonconforming materials in the MRC Global Nonconformance Database
Communicate with warehouse managers or distribution center managers for daily workload
Analyze material non-conformance effectively and present results and determine trends
Write and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analysis (JSAs)
Palletize products for shipping and maintain a clean work area
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

High school diploma or a General Education Degree (GED)
Typically requires five plus (5+) years of related experience
Working knowledge of Pipes, Valves, and Fittings (PVF) products and associated industrial and oilfield products
Working knowledge of warehouse distribution operations, including shipping, receiving, packaging, inventory controls, etc
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and computer skills
Ability to read and interpret specifications required by customers
Ability to identify and catalog material deficiencies
Possess an understanding of safety requirements and improvements
Excellent attention to detail, critical thinking and analytical skills
Self-starter and good communicator with the ability to work as both an effective material inspector and as a member of a team on existing and upcoming projects
Strong understanding of material and product specifications and be able to review and interpret quality codes and analyze potentially nonconforming material
Ability to learn the industry standards, quality codes, and customer specifications, including Approved Material Lists involved in MRC Global's quality process
Ability to operate forklifts, order pickers, cranes, and other typical warehouse material handling equipment
Ability to recognize the need for process change, and a willingness to implement changes when beneficial to the department and to MRC Global
Ability to document and catalog material shipments in an online repository
Manual dexterity is required for operating machinery and computers
Physical activity/exertion is routine
Able to lift 25-50 pounds overhead
Able to stand for long periods of time
Operate heavy machinery/tools (as required)
PPE required
Able to be available for on-call or after-hours/weekend service, including potential overnight stays
Ability to work in warehouse conditions exposed to various elements of temperature (hot/cold) and noise (non-climate-controlled)
