Responsibilities

Capable of prioritizing work, juggling multiple projects, working independently and delivering designs on time
Provides leadership and mentoring to the special trackwork and track design team in the review and development of track designs for track renewal and new track construction
Enforces quality control reviews and procedures to ensure that special trackwork and track designs meet appropriate standards and is conducive to the safe and reliable operation of all train service over Amtrak owned and operated rail lines
Provides guidance and inter-discipline coordination with Amtrak Planning, Amtrak surveyors, other Amtrak engineering disciplines and the Divisions in the development of track alignment designs and plans
Conducts field inspections to investigate situations before making engineering recommendations

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Industrial Engineering or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience
Plus 6 years of relevant work experience
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point)
Proficient in at least 1 CAD software package, i.e. MicroStation, AutoCAD
Working knowledge of reading and interpreting manufacturing and/or construction drawings
Working in railroad track and around moving trains
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred

Experience with railroad operations and maintenance
Background in manufacturing, material science or metallurgy
Participation in AREMA, TTCI, or other technical society
Experience in track maintenance and construction
Experience with railroad operations
10 years relevant, progressive work experience, or 15 years of relevant, progressive work experience in track construction and design
8 years of progressive experience in civil/track design on railroad track projects
Thorough working knowledge of AREMA and Amtrak Design Criteria
Qualified in AMTRAK RWP, AMT II, MW-1000
