SUPERVISORY ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN (RAWS)

Responsibilities
Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of RAWS maintenance, ensuring that assigned equipment maintenance complies with regulatory requirements and meets customer needs
Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management
Represents (the organization) with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with Federal Aviation Administrations (FAA), National Weather Service (NWS), Air Force Flight Standards Agency (AFFSA) and other DoD agencies supporting the mission
When workload demands installs, modifies, tests, repairs, overhauls, calibrates, maintains, and verifies/certifies performance of complex integrated and interfacing electronic systems
Determines when the systems are operational or when to remove them from operation for repair or troubleshooting
Utilizes safety practices and procedures and control tools

A one (1) year supervisory probationary period is required if applicant selected has not previously met this requirement

Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays
Shift work and emergency overtime may be required. Subject to shift work, overtime, telephone and pager standby (on-call) and may be required to work an uncommon tour of duty
Employee must maintain current certifications. Requires CPR certification
Disclosure of Political Appointments
Must be qualified to drive government motor vehicles and qualify for flightline driving qualification
Must be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors. Use of both arms and legs is required
Work requires a pre-employment physical as a condition of employment. Frequent walking, kneeling, bending, prolonged standing, working in strained and uncomfortable positions, and lifting/carrying moderate (15-44 lbs.)
Requires annual occupational exam and the wear of prescribed aural protection device
Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft. Outdoor work sometimes performed in inclement weather or limited light conditions
Requires recurring training to update knowledge of systems and procedures. Requires knowledge of procedures for storage and handling of hazardous materials
Potential exists for injuries such as electric shock, cuts and bruises, as well as burns caused by electrical or RF energy and soldering equipment. Climbing of towers and ladders while using safety-climbing devices is required
As a condition of employment, the employee must meet certification requirements found in the RAWS Career Field Education and Training Plan (CFETP)
The employee is required to maintain proficiency certification on an annual basis, and is subject to validation of training certifications via the Quality Assurance evaluation program
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems
Knowledge of a wide range of electronic principles and practices Digital Airport Surveillance Radar (DASRAN/GPN-30); Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS-AN/FSQ-204); Next Generation Weather Radar System (NEXRAD-WSD-88D); Mono-pulse Secondary Surveillance Radar, (MSSR); FMQ-19 or 23 Weather System; GRC, GRT, and GRR, CM-300, and URC-200 Radio Systems; FCS-127 ETVS; GSH-74 DALR; associated support equipment, and any systems purchased to replace the aforementioned equipment
Knowledge of a wide range of electronic principles and practices, operating parameters, capabilities, and limitations of electronic systems associated with air traffic control and weather radar equipment; and of systems and component design, capabilities, configurations, limitations, and functional operation; and of various types of electronics logic
Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, and practices and ability to operate safely
Skill in the interpretation of technical data such as drawings, schematics, blueprints, and specifications of complete electronic systems and in-depth knowledge of various types of electronics logic and the ability to trace that logic from one system to another; skill in using complex electronic and electromechanical test and measuring equipment using integrated test functions for different purposes
Ability to modify standard procedures, adapt equipment or techniques, and make departures from previous approaches to solve technical problems or improve system performance for highly complex electronic systems; to trace electronics logic from one system to another; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships to represent the organization in a professional manner
Ability to use computer terminals to enter and extract data to maintain records and document actions. Knowledge of computer operating systems programs, e.g. Unix, Linux, Sun Solaris; network types; network topologies; transport devices e.g. hubs, routers, switches; and data communications equipment
Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
