Head Camp Counselor

The City of Lenexa’s Parks and Recreation Department is seeking dynamic leaders for the summer of 2026 as Head Camp Counselors. This role involves leading and overseeing daily activities for campers, ensuring a positive and safe camp environment while supporting Camp Counselors and engaging with children and youth.

Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and lead children in a variety of recreational activities
Foster healthy and positive relationships with children and youth
Supervise and support Camp Counselors and campers throughout the day
Communicate effectively with campers, staff, and parents
Ensure the health and safety of all participants by following safety and emergency procedures
Model professionalism and a positive attitude at all times
Assist with participant check-in and check-out
Maintain and clean program areas after use
Support special events by hosting booths or leading activities
Document and report incidents or concerns to camp directors

First Aid/CPR/AED certificationChildrenLeadershipCommunication skillsOrganizational skills

Required

Must be at least 18 years of age
Must have a high school diploma or GED and one year of job-related experience working with school-aged children
First Aid/CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of employment (City-provided training)
