Senior Underwriting Technician

Responsibilities

Assists the underwriter in the review of renewal business to ensure the best risks are maintained and non-profitable business is non-renewed or appropriately mitigated
Prioritizes renewal work queue to maintain renewal issuance standards and timeliness
Evaluates policies and endorsements against prescribed criteria to determine if risk qualifies for acceptance; verifies and rates renewal business (understands rating factors); investigates inconsistencies related to risk acceptance, renewal and pricing; reviews situations not covered by criteria; and develops information for underwriters to isolate problems
Analyzes current policy data including billing, inspection reports and loss runs to make educated decisions on Private Client Select renewal business. Understands Private Client Select’s workflows, contracts, underwriting strategy, and systems
Communicates with brokers to ensure mutual understanding, and resolves problems related to rating, coverage, billing, and underwriting requirements
Establishes effective broker relationships and demonstrates customer focus. Visits selected brokers as required
Liaises between the broker and underwriter to ensure needs are being met
Acts within designated authority to transact business and obtains appropriate authority for those risks that exceed the designated authority limits
Participates in special projects as needed
Understands and adheres to authority guidelines
Ensures polices and accounts are thoroughly documented to ensure compliance
Adheres to department standards and objectives

Required

2-5 years of Personal Lines Property & Casualty Insurance underwriting experience or relevant professional experience
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent work experience)
Property & Casualty Licensure required or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire
Developing knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures
Analytical and quantitative skills
Ability to work in dynamic, rapidly changing environment, adapting to changing requirements and collaborating with a wide range of colleagues to quickly deliver solutions
Detail-oriented with demonstrated ability to self-direct, prioritize work, and meet deadlines
Takes initiative on projects and assignments, seeks alternate solutions when necessary
Highly motivated and results-oriented
Positive, energetic, self-motivated, and possesses strong interpersonal skills
Microsoft Excel knowledge
