Health Technician - Ambulatory Care (MAC)

USAJOBS is seeking a Health Technician for the Richard L. Roudebush VAMC in Indianapolis, IN, within the Ambulatory Care Service. The primary purpose of this role is to assist health and medical personnel in diagnosing and treating patient illnesses, while also providing administrative support to ensure efficient clinic operations.

Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities of the Health Technician are varied and involve accomplishing both clinical and administrative tasks associated with the treatment and care of patients that present at a Specialty Care Clinic
The incumbent serves as a clinical associate in the team and participates in the assessment of physical, functional, spiritual, and psychosocial planning needs of patients assigned in collaboration with the provider and/or care team
Provides clerical and administrative support to the unit
Maintains patient's record/charts
Providers general clerical/administrative support coordination work for the unit
Accurately enters order and/or consults as approved through Specialty clinic Outpatient Protocols
Assists patients in contacting members of their Specialty Clinic team and/or navigating through the health care system
Support clinical flow to include but not limited to scrubbing provider panel, communicating with Specialty Care Clinic/ Medical Support Assistance for scheduling needs, pre-appointment check-in and clinical reminder review
Facilitates completion of medical documentation through communication with Specialty Clinic Team; to include FMLA, faxes, etc
Checks appointments and tests and coordinates all activities and appointments for the clinical areas, avoiding conflict in patient treatment plan
Supports Specialty Clinic through evaluating, answering, and sending messaging to appropriate care team members

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement
GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization
Specialized experience includes: Receives requests or instructions for procedures from medical or health care personnel; explains procedures, Monitoring vital signs. Maintaining patient records
Must have at minimum high school diploma OR equivalent AND one OR more of the following: VA - approved specialty training/study course that is: Externally accredited; Relevant to the clinical service; Includes a mechanism to ensure learner validation of knowledge
Graduation from an accredited program or school relevant to the clinical service
Six Semester hours in subjects related to the position
Nationally approved certification or registration from a professional organization that is applicable to their position

Preferred

Preferred experience in minor plastics, podiatry, dermatology and/or urology procedures
