Senior Mortgage Insurance Underwriter
Anza Mortgage Insurance Corporation is a fintech startup focused on empowering homeownership through credit risk protection. They are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Mortgage Insurance Underwriter responsible for assessing the creditworthiness of borrowers and the associated risks of mortgage insurance applications.

Responsibilities
Review and analyze mortgage insurance applications and supporting documentation, including credit reports, income statements, assets, liabilities, and appraisals
Utilize automated underwriting systems and proprietary technology to evaluate applications and potential risk factors, ensuring compliance with both company and industry regulations
Communicate clearly and effectively with loan officers, processors, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information, clarify discrepancies, and provide updates
Make informed, sound underwriting decisions based on a thorough analysis of documentation and risk assessment
Document underwriting decisions and provide justification for approvals or rejections, adhering to clear communication standards
Prioritize and manage work efficiently, with a keen focus on meeting deadlines and maintaining service level agreements
Maintain a strong, up-to-date knowledge of mortgage insurance policies, lending guidelines, federal and state regulations, and evolving industry standards
Identify potential fraudulent activity by carefully reviewing loan documentation and vendor reports
Provide support to mortgage insurance analysts, contributing to a collaborative and knowledgeable team environment
Participate in system testing and validation activities
Qualification
Required
Proficiency with automated underwriting systems (e.g., Fannie Mae DU, Freddie Mac LPA) and loan origination software
Well versed in modern technology including the Google Suite of tools
Experience with testing new technologies
Demonstrated experience in working with loan origination platforms; Encompass, Empower, Vesta, Blue Sage, Calyx
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Thorough understanding of insurance risk underwriting
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
Keen ability to establish strong customer relationships
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment
Strong knowledge of industry regulations and compliance standards
5-7 years of experience in mortgage underwriting, with a proven track record of successful risk assessment
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
