Medical Assistant - International Travel - Adult and Pediatric Care
Cincinnati Children's is a leading children's hospital dedicated to improving children's health through a holistic team approach. The Medical Assistant will provide clinical and administrative support in a Family Care clinic, ensuring safe and efficient care for both adult and pediatric patients.
Health Care
Responsibilities
Open and prepare exam rooms (safety checks, paper on beds)
Print face sheets and patient stickers (recommend 1–2 pages for vaccine documentation)
Assemble paper charts and patient folders with travel materials
Review travel questionnaire or Epic note prior to check-in
Participate in pre-clinic huddle with provider
Escort patients to exam rooms and obtain vital signs
Complete intake: allergies, pain, medications, history review
Document standard intake flowsheets and confirm trip details
Communicate check-in summary to provider
Confirm vaccine orders with provider before administration (Stop-Hold process)
Prepare vaccines and coordinate with pharmacy for delivery to A Pod
Gather VIS sheets for patient education
Locate emergency supplies (Benadryl, epi-pen) for adverse reactions
Administer vaccines and provide wrap-up education (informal monitoring during AVS discussion)
Manage time-sensitive vaccines to prevent expiration; coordinate with designated staff for timing
Update After Visit Summary (AVS) with traveler’s dates, locations, medications, recommended products, and vaccines administered
Access VIS and vaccine administration resources from CDC (cdc.gov/VIS) and Immunize.org
Follow vaccine administration guidelines: + Tdap/DTaP cannot share site with pneumococcal vaccine. + Live virus vaccines: same day or 28 days apart. + Yellow fever vaccine: administer last; subcutaneous route
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Graduate of a program in Medical Assisting AND No directly related experience OR Completion of a formal medical services training program of the US armed forces OR 1 year of work experience in a related job discipline
