Internship 2026 Robotics Testing: Sim to Real Gap
Bedrock Robotics is seeking a motivated intern to improve simulation fidelity for their autonomous excavator platform. The role involves identifying gaps between simulated and real-world behavior, enhancing physics models, and collaborating with the Simulation and Robotics Platform team.

Responsibilities
Characterize and improve simulation fidelity for the autonomous excavator platform
Identify gaps between simulated and real-world behavior
Leverage targeted improvements to physics models to close the gaps
Assess how well the simulation predicts actual excavator dynamics and performance
Characterize the sim-to-real gap across different operating conditions and configurations
Mine operational data and design targeted data collection campaigns
Work with simulation and ML engineers to improve the simulation model and validate changes
Qualification
Required
Currently pursuing a BS, MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or related technical field
Coursework in dynamics, controls, or robotics
Experience with Python for data analysis, scripting and automation
Ability to work full-time in our San Francisco office during summer 2026 (June-August)
Strong documentation and communication skills
Preferred
Familiarity with vehicle dynamics, stability analysis, or simulation
Experience with system identification or parameter estimation techniques
Background with sensor systems (IMUs, encoders, GNSS)
Understanding of hydraulic systems or heavy equipment dynamics
Prior internship or project experience with physical robotic systems
