Internship - Materials Engineering - Summer 2026
ASML is a leading company in the development of lithography machines for microchip production. They are seeking a summer intern to join the Defectivity Group, where the intern will assist in designing experiments and collaborating with engineers to develop portions of lithography systems.

Responsibilities
Design of experiments for a wide range of project needs
Derive conclusions from analysis to make practical recommendations
Technical writing and communication skills, including the ability to present results based on scientific evidence to audiences of a wide range of technical abilities
Take direction from ASML System Architects and Senior Engineering mentors who are leading the development effort of critical large capital equipment
Participate in developing portions of the lithography system and/or associated tooling and test equipment
Work on sub-systems involving robotics, mechatronics, precision mechanics, and/or opto-mechanics
Consider engineering specifications and performance, lifetime, failure modes, root cause analysis, statistical analysis, measurement system capability, etc
Collaborate with system architects and engineers in a multidiscipline project team to develop concepts, perform engineering analysis, build and test prototypes, design experiments, and/or analyze data
Qualification
Required
Pursuing Bachelor's or Masters, with at least 2 years completed in a Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering Physics, Mechanical Engineering
Design of experiments for a wide range of project needs

Technical writing and communication skills, including the ability to present results based on scientific evidence to audiences of a wide range of technical abilities

Collaborate with system architects and engineers in a multidiscipline project team to develop concepts, perform engineering analysis, build and test prototypes, design experiments, and/or analyze data
Tribology: wear resistance of coatings and materials
Physics: plasma, electrostatics and materials compatibility
Mechanical: Small particle behavior in gas flows and high vacuum
Software: Data analysis and image processing for particle adder detection
Electrical: Test equipment hardware and software, scripting in Python or Matlab
Chemistry: chemical cleaning methods for vacuum grade cleaning, characterization of coatings, surface treatments
Team player willing to work with high level problem solvers on a daily basis
Genuine interest in materials science, engineering, and analysis, as well as in developing precision systems that can perform reliably at customer sites
High energy, self-motivated, quick study, flexible nature
Customer-centric personal ethos
Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks concurrently and with minimal guidance
This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work
