Lab Technician

Responsibilities
Responsible for the complete water sampling and analysis by titration for all cooling towers and boilers
Sampling of all outfall water to check permit limits
Operation and changing/backwashing and replacement of ion beds
Obtain all composite samples and perform analysis to meet product specifications
Obtain daily corrosion and sulfur samples and perform analysis
Obtain fuel gas samples and prepare for shipment to third party laboratory
Calibrate lab pH and conductivity and also on-site instrumentation
On site observations of treating systems; including boilers, cooling towers, RO unit, amine systems, caustic systems, ethylene heaters
Requires running samples and recording results then communicate these results to plant and terminal operators
Check all chemical pumps and storage tanks as required and log these results
Maintain various laboratory testing equipment
Process testing including raw materials and in-process and finished products
Calibration and maintenance of Lab Chromatographs and other Lab equipment
All job tasks need to be completed in a timely, safe manner, paying attention to accuracy and reporting all incidents environmentally or safety related
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Associate's degree in technical discipline (preferred)
Maintain a valid driver's license to include a safe driving record satisfactory to the company
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Minimum 1 year of related work experience
Interpersonal communication skills are required in order to interface with all affected teams, personnel, and vendors
Strong work ethic with demonstrated ability to effectively work with minimum supervision
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Well-grounded, preferring to work in a collegial and team environment
A self-starter
Ability to think critically, solve problems independently and exercise excellent judgment
Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, with the ability to respond to call outs as needed to fulfill business objective and the ability to work shifts for plant or field conditions
We maintain a drug-free workplace and perform pre-employment substance abuse testing
This role is subject to drug and alcohol testing, per applicable federal regulations or as required by Targa
Regular and reliable attendance
Preferred
Experience in liquid petroleum testing or water treating
Experience with calibrating, maintaining and repairing Chromatographs
Experience with GCs in a lab atmosphere
CMMS (Computerized maintenance management system) experience (SAP, Maximo etc.)
Experience with Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures and work permit process
