Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Internship

Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) is seeking pharmacy student candidates for a 6-week Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Internship. This internship offers students the chance to engage in patient care observation, professional development, and a project aimed at improving care quality.

Responsibilities

Observation of patient care with a licensed pharmacist preceptor
Professional development
Longitudinal project intended to improve the quality of care provided to patients
Participation in primary care clinical meetings
Engagement in inter-professional enrichment events
Discussion regarding 'hot topics' in ambulatory care
Introduction to team-based, patient-centered care
Cultivation of pharmacy and self-leadership skills
Involvement in interdisciplinary education and collaboration
Development of skills related to project management

Required

Candidates must have completed their second professional year of pharmacy school by the start of the program
Must be able to demonstrate interest in direct patient care
Must have excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and phone communication skills, as well as a high level of proficiency and accuracy, organizational skills, and a strong patient-centered orientation

Preferred

GPA of 3.0 or greater as of the end of Fall Semester 2025 are strongly preferred
Spanish/English bilingual persons are strongly encouraged to apply
