Lecturer/Lighting Designer

The University of Massachusetts Amherst is a nationally ranked public land-grant research university seeking a full-time non-tenure track Lecturer of Lighting Design. The successful candidate will develop and teach lighting design courses at the graduate and undergraduate level, oversee the lighting design of the department’s main stage season, and collaborate with production areas and lighting shop staff.

Responsibilities

Develop and teach foundation and advanced courses in lighting design and drafting
Contribute other specialties to complement departmental offerings
Oversee the lighting design of the department’s main stage season, which includes the mentoring and supervision of student designers
Collaborate with all production areas and work closely with the lighting shop staff including the Stage Lighting Supervisor

Qualification

MFA in Lighting DesignTeaching experienceProfessional lighting designerTechnical lighting knowledgeCreative achievementCollaboration skillsVideo design experience

Required

MFA in Lighting Design or terminal degree in related field by time of hire
demonstrated excellence in teaching lighting design at the college level
substantial experience as a professional lighting designer at the regional and/or national level
evidence of ongoing creative achievement
an ability to collaborate across disciplines and build community partnerships
a working knowledge of the technical aspects of lighting

Preferred

Projection and/or video design experience are desirable
