Fire Alarm Technician

Independent Alarm is seeking a hands-on Fire Alarm Technician to install, service, program, test, commission, and troubleshoot fire alarm control panels and associated life-safety systems for commercial and enterprise customers. The role requires deep fire alarm knowledge and familiarity with NFPA standards, along with performing annual fire alarm certifications and thorough documentation of work.

Responsibilities

Install, program, service, troubleshoot, and maintain fire alarm control panels, detectors, notification devices, NACs, and other life-safety equipment
Perform system commissioning, acceptance testing, and annual fire alarm certifications per NFPA standards (including NFPA 72)
Wire new construction and retrofit existing structures for low-voltage fire alarm systems; follow applicable electrical and fire codes
Diagnose and repair system failures; update firmware and system programming as required
Provide customer training on system operation, basic troubleshooting, and evacuation/notification features
Document tests, inspections, deficiencies, and corrective actions clearly and descriptively
Operate company vehicles, ladders, lifts, and industry hand/power tools safely; load/unload materials and haul trailers as needed
Support other security tasks as assigned (intrusion, access control, cameras) when required

Required

Minimum 1 year field experience as an alarm/low-voltage technician with hands-on fire alarm work preferred
Practical experience installing, programming, servicing, and troubleshooting fire panels and life-safety devices
Working knowledge of NFPA 72 and other applicable fire codes and standards
Valid driver's license and clean driving record; able to pass background checks (criminal and driving)
Comfortable working in confined spaces (attics, basements, crawl spaces), climbing ladders, lifting 50+ lbs regularly
Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and customer-facing communication skills
Own common industry hand tools and experience using meters and test equipment

Preferred

NICET certification (Level I–III) in Fire Alarm Systems preferred
Trade or technical training in low-voltage electronics, fire systems, or related field
Experience performing formal acceptance testing and preparing inspection/certification reports
