FTTH Drop Technician ' Crew Lead (Aerial & Underground)
Planet Networks is seeking an FTTH Drop Technician to oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber-to-the-home service drops. The role involves leading a small crew to ensure high-quality work while managing customer interactions and maintaining safety standards.

Responsibilities
Install and maintain fiber drops from aerial and underground taps to customer locations
Mount, seal, and label network interface devices (house boxes) at the customer premises
Safely operate ladders and climb poles using approved lineman climbing gear and fall protection equipment
Perform basic splicing, connectorization, and signal testing to ensure optimal fiber performance
Maintain and secure fiber routing along structures and customer entry points per company standards
Lead a 2-4 person crew through FTTH drop installations and service projects
Assign daily tasks, coordinate material handling, and ensure efficient workflow
Enforce proper PPE usage and compliance with all OSHA, DOT, and company safety protocols
Address and resolve minor field or personnel issues before escalating to the Linecrew Supervisor
Train and mentor new technicians in drop installation, safety, and quality standards
Communicate clearly and professionally with customers and property owners regarding installation paths and equipment placement
Ensure all work sites are left clean, safe, and restored to original condition after completion
Maintain accurate documentation of completed jobs, materials used, and signal test results
Qualification
Required
2+ years of experience in fiber optic or FTTH drop installation
Proficiency in both aerial and underground fiber drop work
Ability to safely climb poles or use ladders in various terrain conditions
Familiarity with fiber tools, light meters, and drop installation hardware
Strong communication and organizational skills
Physically able to lift 75 lbs, work at heights, and perform duties in all weather conditions
Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record
Must pass pre-employment background and MVR check
Willingness to work long hours, nights, weekends, or travel as required by project needs
