Cabrini | Staff Attorney - FVP

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston is seeking a Staff Attorney for their Family Visa Program. The role involves providing direct legal representation to clients in immigration matters, including preparation for court hearings and legal consultations, while also supervising legal assistants and engaging in community outreach.

Responsibilities

Provide legal assistance and direct representation to immigrant clients before the USCIS
Maintain client physical and electronic files according to program requirements
Attendance and participation is mandatory in team meetings, Cabrini staff meetings, and other agency meetings
Comply with all contract requirements
Participate in Charlas by presenting and performing legal consultations
Provide supervision and direction to Legal Assistant, Paralegal and/or interns on a full range of legal services provided by the program
Perform other duties as assigned by the Legal Director and Managing Attorneys

Qualification

Juris Doctor (J.D.)Licensed to practice lawBilingual in English & SpanishLegal research skillsLegal writing skillsCommunication skillsNegotiation skillsMulti-cultural sensitivityImmigrant communityBasic typing skillsMS Office proficiencyConfidential information handling

Required

Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) degree from an ABA accredited law school
Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas or have an active license from another U.S. jurisdiction and be eligible to waive into the State Bar of Texas within 12 months of hire
Bilingual in English & Spanish

Preferred

Excellent legal research and legal writing skills
Excellent verbal and written communication and negotiation skills
Ability to handle a high-volume caseload, multiple deadlines, and other tasks simultaneously
Knowledge and proficiency in basic typing skills and computer applications such as MS Office
Demonstrated multi-cultural skills and sensitivity
Ability to handle and maintain confidential information
Experience working with low-income immigrant community
