Assistant Attorney General, Consumer Credit Unit
The Virginia Office of the Attorney General is seeking an Assistant Attorney General for the Consumer Credit Unit. This role involves analyzing, investigating, and prosecuting violations of consumer lending statutes and other consumer protection laws, requiring excellent writing skills and litigation experience.
Law Practice
Responsibilities
Analyze, investigate, and prosecute suspected violations of state and federal consumer lending statutes
Analyze, investigate, and prosecute violations of other state and federal consumer protection laws, including the Virginia Consumer Protection Act
Prepare to appear in state or federal court in actions filed against alleged violators
Work with representatives of the State Corporation Commission, Bureau of Financial Institutions, and federal consumer protection agencies on referred matters
Periodically provide legal advice to the Office of Charitable and Regulatory Programs
Assist in drafting official opinions
Review proposed legislation
Work with counterparts in other states
Qualification
Required
Demonstrated ability to analyze and manage complex enforcement cases
Well-developed oral and written communication skills
Ability to interact effectively with state/federal government officials, a diverse workforce, and the general public
Minimum of 3 to 5 years of litigation experience in state and federal courts, concentrating on consumer credit or consumer protection matters
Must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar
