Responsibilities

Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the engineering site, ensuring alignment with the organization's goals and objectives

Develop and maintain a safe and productive work environment, adhering to all safety regulations and best practices

Adhere to all security protocols and work with the site Facility Security Officer to ensure all personnel are also in compliance

Participate in preparation of proposals

Manage site/departmental budgets, ensuring effective allocation of resources and adherence to financial constraints

Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization

Recruit, mentor and train top talent. Foster a culture of innovation and creativity within the team

Lead and manage a collaborative multidisciplinary engineering team including electrical, mechanical, systems, and software engineering

Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to engineering staff with a focus on professional development

Manage budget, cost, and schedule input for design assignments

Establish clear objectives, priorities, and performance expectations for the engineering teams. Set performance goals, conduct performance reviews, and provide feedback to team members

Act as the primary point of contact for all engineering-related matters for the Goleta site; coordinating with the LS headquarters staff in Bridgeton, MO

Foster effective communication and collaboration across engineering disciplines and with other functions including engineering, marketing, business development, supply chain and manufacturing

Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required

Work closely with other engineering functional managers to ensure process consistency, resource planning and allocation, and functional department coordination, driving synergy and efficiency across all engineering functions

Attend in-person/remote appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings

Establish mechanisms to collect feedback and continuously improve team processes and outputs

Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in engineering and rapid prototyping to ensure the team remains at the forefront of innovation

Ensure that the engineering team has access to the latest tools, training, and resources to support continuous learning and development
