Independently repairing and overhauling a variety of gasoline, diesel and alternative fuel vehicles and equipment
Performing other related duties as required

Required

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment
Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to competently perform the skills and duties of this position
Experience must have included maintenance and overhauls of a variety of light and heavy motorized vehicles and/or equipment in the City's fleet
Experience must have included the repair and overhaul of complex hydraulic and electrical systems on a variety of heavy vehicles, such as dump trucks, truck tractors, and/or refuse trucks
Valid Driver's License (Type 3) - Prior to Appointment
D.O.T. Medical Exam Certificate - Prior to Appointment
Valid Commercial Driver's License (Type B) - By the End of Probation
Certificate approved by the Environmental Protection Agency - By the End of Probation

Preferred

An Associate's degree in Applied Science (AAS) in Diesel Mechanics Technology may be used to qualify for the Fleet Mechanic I level
Certificate of Achievement in Automotive Technology or Diesel Mechanics may be given some credit along with relevant work experience
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certificates may be given some credit along with relevant work experience under a journey level mechanic
State Department of Transportation Safety Inspector Certificate - Prior to Appointment
Certificate of Fitness for Crane and Hoist Operator - Prior to Appointment
