Regulatory Compliance Attorney

The Regulatory Compliance Attorney supports the WPS Health Plan division by providing legal advice on regulatory matters affecting health insurance products and ensuring compliance with state and federal laws.

Responsibilities
Conduct in-depth legal research on state and federal insurance laws and regulations related to health insurance products, including ACA, HIPAA, ERISA, and Medicare programs. Analyze how laws impact WPS Health Plan operations
Identify legal and regulatory compliance risks affecting WPS Health Plan products and operations. Develop legal strategies and recommendations to mitigate these risks
Provide legal counsel and compliance guidance to internal stakeholders, including actuarial, underwriting, sales, and operations teams. Advise on privacy and data security issues, marketing materials, and new business initiatives
Communicate with and represent WPS before regulatory agencies, trade associations, and other external bodies. Defend the company’s position during negotiations and compliance-related interactions
Review insurance certificates, plan documents, and policy materials for compliance with applicable laws. Ensure marketing and promotional materials meet regulatory requirements
Respond to formal complaints, support RFP responses, and assist with internal or external audits related to Health Plan regulatory matters
Support and assist the Managing Regulatory Compliance Attorney in leading the Regulatory Services team. Participate in corporate projects, grievance/appeals committee activities, and cross-functional legal initiatives
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
Active membership in the State Bar of Wisconsin in good standing, required upon hire
5 or more years of legal experience with 3 or more years focused on health care regulatory law
Strong knowledge of Wisconsin insurance regulations and the Affordable Care Act (ACA)
Strong analytical and research skills
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
High speed cable or fiber internet
Minimum of 10 Mbps downstream and at least 1 Mbps upstream internet connection
