Responsibilities
Consistently play leadership role across the full life cycle of secondary transactions – crafting strategy, diligence approach, pricing, and negotiation tactics independently and in partnership with other senior secondary team members
Strategically engage intermediaries, general partners, and limited partners to generate secondary deal flow proactively – including driving GP conversations in partnership with colleagues from other investment teams
Effectively manage and guide team resources through the due diligence process, building team consensus and conviction, ensuring efficient use of resources, soliciting senior team and Investment Committee feedback, and testing seller expectations as appropriate
Assume the lead role in the secondary closing process alongside the legal team, providing commercial direction and stepping into negotiation of terms with general partners on key business points
Play cross-functional role across the broader Hamilton Lane platform, including coverage of GP relationships and identifying and sourcing opportunities for other investment teams
Effectively and confidently convey the merits and differentiation of the Hamilton Lane secondary platform in fundraising and other client-facing settings
Take an active role in the career management and mentorship of junior team members, supporting their professional growth and skill development. Mentor and train Vice Presidents and Principals on all the skills listed above
Qualification
Required
A minimum of 10 years' relevant experience in private markets, financial services, or professional services, with substantial experience in private equity secondaries and demonstrated leadership of complex transactions
Demonstrated ability to independently lead and close transactions, including strategy, due diligence, underwriting, and negotiation with senior external counterparties and stakeholders
Strong interpersonal and relationship skills and extensive network, with demonstrated ability to leverage that network to source transactions
Highly effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to confidently present and defend complex investment conclusions and the merits of the HL platform to both internal and external audiences
Experience managing and mentoring teams, including building consensus, resource allocation, and supporting professional development
A high standard of professionalism, integrity, and work ethic, with a strong alignment to Hamilton Lane's professional standards and values
Commitment to continuous learning, improvement, and driving best practices to ensure sustainable competitive advantages for Hamilton Lane's secondary platform
Ability to undertake travel (up to 25% of the time) as required for transaction diligence, sourcing, fundraising, and other initiatives
Preferred
Experience in both GP-led and LP secondaries is preferred
