Electrical Manufacturing Intern (Spring / Winter Semester)

The Electrical Manufacturing Engineering Intern will support the development, testing, and optimization of electrical systems and manufacturing processes in a hands-on engineering environment.

Responsibilities

Assist with testing, troubleshooting, and diagnostics of electrical systems and subassemblies used in manufacturing and product development
Support the design and integration of electrical systems including cable assemblies, PCBs, sensors, relays, power supplies, and control hardware
Collaborate with engineers and technicians to resolve production issues and implement design improvements
Use hand tools, soldering equipment, and test instruments (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, LCR meters) to evaluate and verify electrical systems
Interpret and work from engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications
Build documentation from minimal guidance and abstract electrical concepts
Document test results, technical findings, and system configurations as part of product validation and quality assurance
Assist with the development of work instructions, test procedures, and assembly documentation
Maintain lab organization and support equipment calibration and safety compliance
Follow all safety protocols, including those specific to working around energized equipment and manufacturing systems
Other duties as assigned by the engineering and manufacturing leadership team

Required

Familiarity with reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly drawings
Basic understanding of circuit design, PCB layout, and component-level troubleshooting
Proficiency with standard electrical test instruments, such as multimeters, power supplies, and oscilloscopes
Ability to communicate clearly and work both independently and in a team setting
Flexibility with product development and scope of manufacturing
Interest in manufacturing environments and working with cross-functional teams
To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State

Preferred

Hands-on experience with soldering, crimping, and assembling electrical harnesses preferred
Electromechanical experience and interests
High power familiarity (5kV+ and 10kA+)
Familiarity with knowledge management systems such as Coda, SharePoints, etc
