Associate Director - Health Career Opportunity Program

Responsibilities
Oversees activities related to the Doctors Academy STEM Education Initiative for urban middle and high school students
Coordinates the recruitment of diverse college students to the medical and dental pipeline programs of the Schools of Medicine and Dental Medicine
Provides leadership and coordination of the Health Professions Partnership Initiative (HPPI) pipeline programs, ensuring alignment with institutional goals
Supervises and mentor's administrators, peer counselors, and mentors involved in HCOP programs
Visits Hartford Public Middle and High Schools to promote participation in pipeline programs
Publishes and distributes written and audiovisual recruitment materials to support program awareness and engagement
Coordinates academic year and summer enrichment programs to support diverse student populations
Collaborates with Central Administration in Hartford Public Schools, Student Affairs, University/Colleges, and community partners to advance program objectives
Prepares and submits grant requests to external funding agencies; maintains a record of successful grant procurement
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Knowledge of health career opportunity programs, enrichment programs, and pipeline initiatives
Knowledge of higher education systems and academic program development
Ability to obtain and manage large grant funding to support educational initiatives
Ability to plan, organize, and implement programs effectively
Strong leadership and administrative abilities in a medical or dental education environment
Passion for education and commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds
Strong interpersonal communication, and presentation skills across diverse constituencies
Demonstrated creativity, innovation, and strategic thinking in developing new programs and refining existing ones
A medical or dental degree (M.D., D.M.D) or Ph.D. and pertinent administrative experience in a medical or dental school setting
Experience in grant writing, program development, student outreach, and supervision of academic or administrative staff
Preferred
Creative, innovative and visionary leader
Strategic and critical thinker who can expand and enhance HCOP programs and activities
Collaborative and collegial with strong team-building skills
Independent, organized, detail-oriented, and professional
Effective speaker and representative of HCOP and HIPPI programs within and outside UConn Health
Diplomatic and politically savvy with strong advocacy for educational opportunity
