Assistant Professor of Composition and Rhetoric
Hartwick College is an independent, residential liberal arts college enrolling approximately 1,100 full-time undergraduates. They are seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Composition and Rhetoric, with expertise in First-Year Writing and a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching.
Education
Responsibilities
Specific teaching assignments will include College Writing and Co-requisite College Writing, with the possibility of other courses in rhetoric and composition based on areas of expertise
Teaching load will average 20 semester credit hours or their equivalent per academic year, and all faculty members teach during the College’s distinctive four-week January Term
The successful candidate must be committed to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching
Tenure-track faculty are expected to actively engage in scholarly or creative activities
Committee service, including campus wide and departmental governance, and academic advising are expected for re-appointment, tenure, and promotion
Qualification
Required
Ph.D. in Composition & Rhetoric, English, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field by the time of appointment
Exceptional experience in teaching first-year writing for ABD candidates
Commitment to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching
Engagement in scholarly or creative activities
Committee service, including campus wide and departmental governance, and academic advising for re-appointment, tenure, and promotion
Preferred
Expertise in First-Year Writing
Additional background in Multilingual Writing Pedagogies, Media Studies, and Technical Writing
