Senior Design Engineer (RF and Systems)

Ravenswood Solutions, Inc. is looking for a motivated and talented Sr. Design Engineer with a deep background in RF Components and Systems to join their Product Development Team in Orlando, FL. The role involves designing, testing, and producing custom devices and sensors for use in rugged field environments, while providing engineering support in research & development, product development, and testing.

Responsibilities

Contribute to system architecture decisions including power management, communication interfaces and embedded peripheral control
Provide guidance for multi-layer PCB layouts optimized for RF performance, signal integrity, and manufacturability
Lead schematic capture, component selection, and layout reviews
Select and test commercial RF components and data transceivers (Bluetooth, WiFi, cellular etc.)
Build and test prototype boards; perform RF measurements including S-parameters, noise figure, linearity, and phase noise
Perform board bring-up, debugging, and validation using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other lab equipment
Work closely with the product development team to define validation plans and ensure performance compliance
Integrate RF front ends with digital and power subsystems; mitigate EMI/EMC issues
Support antenna design and matching, as well as system-level RF link budget and performance analysis
Support product upgrades
Generate design documentation, BOMs, and test reports
Collaborate with manufacturing partners for DFM/DFT and production ramp-up
Maintain design documentation, revision control, and compliance with regulatory and quality standards (EMC, FCC, ISO, etc.)
Provide technical guidance to other team members and drive best practices in hardware design and testing
In-field and On-call diagnostic/troubleshooting support during field exercise
U.S. and international travel opportunities to include internal field testing, field support, client demonstrations, and conferences

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
Minimum 10 years of experience in RF/mixed-signal hardware design or equivalent system expertise
Flexible team-oriented attitude; able to adapt to changing requirements
Proficiency in RF simulation and analysis tools (e.g., Keysight ADS, Microwave Office, HFSS, CST)
Strong PCB design experience with Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or similar
Experience with RF lab equipment: spectrum analyzers, VNAs, signal generators, power meters, etc
Solid understanding of RF fundamentals: impedance matching, filtering, noise, linearity, modulation, and signal integrity
Proven track record in bringing RF products from concept to production
Experience with implementing wired and wireless interfaces (UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, Ethernet, BLE, NFC, WiFi, ZigBee, 4G/5G)
Experience with application networking concepts (TCP/IP, unicast/multicast/broadcast)
Strong programming and debugging skills
Some expertise developing for microprocessors (PSoC4/6, nRF52, Raspberry Pi CM5, x86_64) and low-level drivers/interfaces
Some expertise in one or more of the following: C/C++, Python or Bash
Some Experience with Debian-based Linux/Embedded Linux
Familiar with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence, BitBucket), version controls (git, svn)
Employment is contingent on successful completion of a background check
A drug screen will be required as part of the hiring process
Ability to travel required (typically one week every two months)
Due to government requirements for this role and the nature of the work, candidates must be U.S. Citizens with the ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance

Preferred

Experience with GNSS, LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, radar, or custom RF systems
Familiarity with embedded systems, FPGA interfaces, or digital baseband design
Knowledge of regulatory compliance (FCC, CE, ETSI) and EMC design best practices
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
Experience in initial board bring up on new hardware
Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work closely in small teams to create well integrated products in short design cycles with good documentation and reproducible methods
Familiarity with military training systems, events, formats, and protocol
Documentation and technical writing skills desired
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications
