Responsibilities
Operates construction, excavation, hauling, and maintenance equipment including dump truck, tractor, mower, backhoe, and other mechanized equipment in the construction, repair and maintenance of streets, utilities, storm drainage systems, and related facilities
Transports tools and other construction equipment to and from construction sites
Adheres to and ensures compliance with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices standards within rights-of-way
Inspects and maintains tools, equipment, and vehicles for proper use and care
Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs on automotive equipment
Performs general public works and grounds maintenance work as assigned
Performs related tasks as required
Qualification
Required
A high school diploma or equivalent
One year of experience in the operation of motorized equipment used in the maintenance, repair, or construction of public infrastructure or related facilities
A driver's license valid in the State of Florida
Must obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License within six months of employment
Knowledge of the principles and practices of operating and servicing construction equipment, including but not limited to rubber tire backhoe, excavator, bush hog, vac truck, front-end loader, and skid steer
Knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation
Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary for the proper operation of varied construction and maintenance equipment
Skill and care in the operation of varied types of specialized maintenance and construction equipment, including but not limited to rubber tire backhoe, excavator, bush hog, vac truck, front-end loader, and skid steer
Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment
Ability to determine materials needed for projects
Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other personnel and the public; ability to oversee the work of others
Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
Ability to perform overtime, holiday, and weekend work as needed
