Hartford Steam Boiler (HSB), a Munich Re company, is offering an internship opportunity for Data Science students. As a Data Science Intern, you will work with the Data Science team on machine learning projects that support major business areas such as insurance and technology solutions.

Qualification

Required

MS or PhD Student in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related applied science with a heavy quantitative emphasis

Strong programming experience with Python/R/SQL, with the ability to write well-documented production-level code

Practical knowledge & experience with statistical methods

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work creatively in problem solving environment

Basic software engineering skills (Git, API, Docker Container, DevOps best practices)

Available to start the internship in May 2026 and work a hybrid schedule in the Hartford, CT Office

Preferred

The ideal candidate is adept at using large data sets to find opportunities for product and process optimization

Experience with Spark and distributed computing is a plus

Experience with Azure cloud development is a plus

Experience with learning frameworks such as PyTorch or Tensorflow is a plus

Experience developing or experimenting with generative AI models (ex. LLMs) and associated utilities/workflows is a plus

Exceptional undergraduate students will also be considered
