Small Arms Repairer (Title 32) (Permanent)

Responsibilities
Performs overhaul, maintenance, and repair on a variety of small arms that involve numerous parts, subassemblies, adjustments, and must be adjusted to close tolerances. Diagnoses and identifies mechanical deficiencies and/or malfunctions in weapons, such as, automatic pistols, revolvers, shotguns, automatic rifles, grenade launchers, machine guns, rocket launchers, mortars, and other small arms and accessories
Disassembles weapons, assemblies, subassemblies and other components. After disassembly examines for defects, mechanical misalignment, and malfunctions. Replaces barrels, firing pins, springs, trigger mechanisms, shell ejectors, sights, safety devices, bolts, stocks and other parts and assemblies. Modifies small weapons by replacing obsolete parts. Applies finishing agents and test fires and/or performs operational checks of arms repaired to ensure safety, accuracy, and ease of operation. Applies modification work orders as required
Uses hand and power tools, precision gauges, test instruments, jigs and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications, and adjustments to small arms
Ensures the accountability, storage, and security of arms and other sensitive items while they are kept for repair, usually in vaults with limited access
May serve as a commodity inspector during Command Maintenance Management evaluations (COMET) or as a member of a Maintenance Assistance Instruction Team (MAIT)
Performs other duties as assigned

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED
This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement
Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform
Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment
Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement
Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service
Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation
May be required to successfully complete a trial period
Participation in direct deposit is mandatory
This position is ineligible for inclusion in a bargaining unit

Applicant must have experience or training which demonstrates a working knowledge to read and interpret instructions, repair manual, specifications and drawings
Applicant must have a knowledge of shop mathematics sufficient to use testing devices and measuring instruments
Applicant must be proficient in the use and maintenance of hand tools and equipment
Applicant must have at least 12 months of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the WG-07 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government
Experience or training which demonstrates ability to work effectively and efficiently on weapons and mechanical systems in disassembly for repair, inspection to diagnose mechanical malfunctioning, wear and/or damage is required
Experience in adjustment of levers, gear linkages and synchronization of interrelated mechanical systems
Experience in applying technical manuals, regulations, specifications and drawings to determine operation, assembly and a tolerance of the variety of weapons cleaned, repaired and modified, is required
Experience in using and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools and gages is required
