WebSphere Linux Systems Administrator
Crown Innovations, Inc. is seeking a WebSphere Linux Systems Administrator to support a development team working on mission-critical National Airspace Systems for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The role involves hands-on expertise in managing WebSphere and Linux systems, ensuring high availability and performance of non-production environments.

Responsibilities
Install, configure, and manage the following systems in support of a 50-person development team building flight-planning tools for airmen:
IBM WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5 and later
IPlanet web and proxy servers
Linux OS (Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS) virtual machines
Solaris 10/11 physical machines
Support deployment and management of Java-based web applications to non-production environments, including both AWS and VMware platforms
Install and configure application clusters, connection pooling, and proxy users in WebSphere
Provide images and packages for setting up non-production database instances on Oracle and PostgreSQL
Review and optimize configuration settings across the technology stack to improve system performance
Ensure high availability of non-production systems by proactively monitoring system, process, and application logs
Develop and implement monitoring tools and scripts to quickly identify and resolve issues before system availability is affected
Automate configuration management, deployment, and maintenance using Ansible, Python, and shell scripting
Deploy and configure Nagios, using both out-of-the-box and custom health checks to provide service-level monitoring and integrated alerting
Research and evaluate new tools and technologies; perform proof-of-concept exercises to optimize and improve system operations
Provide knowledge transfer and training to Tier 2 support staff through detailed documentation and walkthroughs
Document comprehensive installation procedures and configuration changes to ensure system consistency and repeatability
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Science (minimum education requirement)
8+ years of experience performing the duties outlined above
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to collaborate across teams, coordinate efforts, and communicate technical changes effectively
U.S. Citizen or U.S. resident (for at least 3 years)
Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance
Ability to commute on-site 2–3 days per week to Reston, VA
