InternThe Defender Association of Philadelphia offers a summer internship program for law students interested in indigent criminal defense litigation. Interns will gain practical experience through intensive training and various assignments in criminal defense, including client representation and legal research.

Responsibilities
Exposure to representing clients in the preliminary arraignment, miscellaneous criminal motions, pre-trial probation, and juvenile courts
Extensive client contact through phone, office and prison interviewing
Learn how to analyze a client’s legal problems
Review forensic data (including video, voice and body-camera footage) and write legal memoranda on the weight of the information reviewed
Participate in a legal research and writing program and work in the civil/criminal mental health unit
Qualification
Required
Must be a law student who has completed their first year of school
Must have a real interest in indigent criminal defense litigation
Must submit a cover letter addressing interest and experience in indigent criminal defense
Must submit a resume
