SHIPWRIGHT LEADER

Responsibilities
You will conduct training for nuclear and non-nuclear work of Shop 84, Service Shop Group, instructing Shipwright, workers, helpers, Ships Force personnel, and others in skills of the trade in classrooms, training mock-ups, and on the job
You will prepare lesson plans and tests and evaluate students during training and after completion
You will assure that needed work permits system Tag Outs, work instructions, drawings, material, and special tooling are on the job site when needed and apply knowledge of the latest work processes and procedures and assure that they are followed
You will resolve problems, accomplish routine inspection of work in progress, audit completed work for compliance with appropriate work procedures, determine progress and status of work, estimate completion of work, and inform immediate supervisor
You will ensure that safety and housekeeping rules are followed, keep work area clean, coordinate the work of coworkers, and assist trades to assure that event schedules are met
You will apply knowledge as a fully qualified journeyman Shipwright and possess a knowledge and skill in the use of all hand tools, machines, processes, shop and ship areas, and elements of the trade, working without close supervision
You will apply knowledge of the Shipwright trade including docking plans and blueprints, use of transit for establishing reference points for setting dock, and for sighting ship into and out of dry dock
You will be required to manufacture pipe stagings bents and locate in accordance with blueprints, build keel blocking, cradles, shoring, and cribbing as required to support ship repair, modification and for overhaul
You will be required to establish critical nuclear reference points for R.C. Penetrations and foundation locations and may be required to be nuclear qualified
You will use precision instruments and measuring devices including optical square transit, levels, alignment scope, tilt level, water leveling systems, declivity boards, carpenters levels, etc
You will be responsible for ensuring that the nuclear training program, or the particular trade training program incorporates maximum trade work/experience
You will be responsible for an effective, up-to-date training program and keep line management informed of requirements, ensure adequate on-the-job instruction is given, prepare lesson plans for training, and maintain and review training records
You will, as an effective communicator, test trainees, counsel and evaluate their work and training progress, and demonstrate initiative to ensure that technological changes in the trade or nuclear area are incorporated in classroom and on-the-job
You will work independently, using shop safety practices, drawings, or technical plans and guides, plan and arrange for proper and safe operations, and ensure that materials, tools, and component parts are safe as well as proper for the job
You will assist the foreman in formulating event schedules and work flow charts to measure availability progress

You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift
Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites
You will be required to work onboard ships
You will be required to work in small and/or confined spaces
You will be required to lift or carry loads up to 60 pounds in weight
You will need to be able to climb ladders and scaffolding
You will need to be able to pass an eye exam to confirm visual acuity
