Senior Manager of Financial Reporting

Responsibilities
Lead a team of senior financial accountants (3) and support team development
Manage and review the preparation of consolidated quarterly and annual reporting deliverables, including annual projections and fluctuation analysis
Ensure compliance with US-GAAP and University internal controls/policies
Oversee the compilation of financial information for inclusion in the University’s annual financial report and Form 990
Assist with University-wide compilation and review of reporting to external agencies, including certain Federal and regulatory compliance requirements, such as Section 117 foreign gift and contract reporting, NSF Foreign Financial Disclosure Report and EZ-Audit
Serve as the primary liaison to external auditors to oversee and manage the year-end audit
Coordinate with various schools/units across the University to ensure audit deadlines and expectations are met
Research complex accounting transactions, including any new or updated GAAP pronouncements; create and update University policies as needed
Plan and organize the bi-monthly Financial Managers Forums, a group of over 100 financial managers from across the University, including presenting topics as appropriate
Work collaboratively and deliver quality customer service to the Harvard financial community, promoting information sharing and providing technical accounting guidance enhancing financial processes and ensuring alignment with strategic objectives
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
Minimum of 8 years' relevant work experience
Supervisory experience
Solid knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”)
Advanced Excel skills
Demonstrated experience with financial systems and data query tools
Effective oral and written communication, organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
Customer service oriented
Proven leadership skills and ability to manage and develop staff
Ability to work collaboratively within a large and complex organization
Preferred
Master's degree and/or CPA license is a plus; a master's degree or CPA license, along with prior public accounting experience, may be considered in lieu of years of experience
Knowledge of not for profit/higher education accounting a plus
