Education Policy Intern

The intern will support the Advocacy & Governance Department by contributing to workflow processes, managing content, and researching educational policy issues.

Responsibilities

Contributes to Advocacy Team’s Workflow While Learning Relevant Processes
Contributes to the processing of correspondence, preparing reports and presentations, developing meetings agendas, project scheduling
Manages and contributes to online and social media content for the department, including the Leading Edge Blog, weekly and monthly updates, and calls to action
Researches and Analyzes Educational Policy Issues, Working with AASA’s Policy Team
Prepares written and oral background analysis of complex issues in a format suitable for sharing with the AASA leadership and membership
Contributes to focusing of AASA education policy positions through sharing of appropriate research gained in some cases through contact with the research community
Works cooperatively with AASA policy staff in the development and presentation of programs and services
Prepares analysis of state legislative trends, as assigned

Required

Current enrollment in bachelor's or master's degree program
Ability to work independently with minimal guidance
Proficient grammar and proofreading skills
Demonstrate exceptional organization communications and project management skills
Effective oral and written communication skills, including ability to provide summarized information related to legislative and policy updates
Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet
Ability to work compatibly with professional and general staff
Professional, positive, energetic and able to multi-task

Preferred

Experience in education policy research and data analysis preferred, academic or other professional setting
