Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain the mill’s Quality Management System in alignment with ISO 9001 or other applicable standards
Lead quality audits, inspections, and test protocols for raw materials, in-process production, and finished goods
Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to resolve quality issues and drive root cause analysis and process improvements
Monitor and report key performance indicators related to product quality, defect rates, and customer complaints
Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations as they relate to quality
Train and mentor quality control staff and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Interface with customers and suppliers regarding new product inquiries, quality concerns, corrective actions, and specifications
Maintain documentation and records for traceability, certifications, and regulatory compliance as well as system setups and specification limits
Coordinate new product development activities to ensure process capability to comply with customer and industry requirements
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering, Materials Science, or related field
Minimum five to seven years of experience in quality management within a steel mill or heavy manufacturing environment
Strong knowledge of steel grades including ASTM, CAN/CSA, ABS and AASHTO standards and structural steel product requirements, heat treatment, rolling processes, and both destructive and non-destructive testing
Proficient in statistical process control, root cause analysis and other Lean Six Sigma tools
Excellent communication, leadership, logic and problem-solving skills
