IACUC Analyst
Northwestern University is seeking an IACUC Analyst to oversee the daily operational activities of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). The role involves managing the review and approval process of research protocols to ensure compliance with regulations and providing training and guidance to committee members and researchers.

Responsibilities
Conducts thorough pre-review and congruency review of protocol submissions
Processes all new protocol submissions, addenda, annuals and supporting documents submitted through e-Protocol to ensure, completeness and compliance with all applicable regulations, statues, policies and procedures
Provides guidance and advice to investigators and recommends changes needed regarding procedural requirements
Evaluates IACUC member protocol review workload, area of research expertise, and makes protocol review assignment recommendations to Chairs
Makes recommendations on improving communication and the protocol review processes of the IACUC office
Creates technical letters for the research community in regards to the approval and pending status of submissions
Triages and processes all incoming correspondence from the IACUC, reviewers, CCM, and the research community and determines the appropriate action or response
Participates in the semi-annual program review process and inspections of the NU animal care and use program
Advises researchers on documents that may be needed to complete protocol submission based on relevant regulations, policy requirements, etc
Researches facts and provides updates and recommendations on non-compliance items for Chair meetings
Recommends revisions of policies/SOPs incorporating best practices for IACUC Subcommittee meeting
Prepares and presents reports at IACUC or Chair meetings
Prepares IACUC monthly and Chair meeting agenda, minutes, and other meeting materials for Committee review
Assists in preparation and maintenance of regulatory records
Researches and becomes a subject matter expert in individual State and Federal laws and regulations as they apply to animal subjects
Participates in IACUC office presentations including Brown Bag, Open House, Committee education, and other presentations
Reviews, monitors and recommends changes to training process to ensure that all research staff handling and caring for animals meet the regulatory training requirements
May be asked to provide and/or analyze data for internal and external regulatory reports as needed
May be asked to assist in preparation of regulatory reports
Prepares or participates in special projects as assigned by the Director
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelors' degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
1 year of IACUC or related animal welfare experience, including demonstrated knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing the use of animals in research
Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA) eligible within 4 years of taking position
Demonstrates high level of oral and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment as well as maintain and exhibit personal composure and confidence at all times
Demonstrates high level organizational skills
Demonstrates ability and efficiency in word processing and database management
Demonstrates ability to multi-task and time management skills
Demonstrates ability to use good judgment and assesses risks
Exemplary interpersonal skills
Preferred
2+ years IACUC or related animal welfare experience including demonstrated knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing the use of animals in research
Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA) or eligible within 2 years for taking position
Masters degree in related science or healthcare field
Administrative experience
Background in medical department and/or research laboratory
AALAS certified
Ability to prepare meeting minutes
Ability to learn and become efficient in database management
Ability to work well independently and within a team environment
