Lead Technician

Responsibilities

Follow safe work practices and company/client work site policies
Install structured cabling systems, including all aspects of the installation process:
Read and interpret all floorplans, drawings, specifications, and cut sheets
Properly set up a variety of copper and fiber testers
Perform system testing and troubleshooting as required
Terminate, label, test, and troubleshoot optical fiber and copper installations
Proactively lead teams of 3–5 Technicians and Installers to complete project tasks
Adequately train Technicians and Installers to complete all tasks and responsibilities of their positions
Assist in developing Technicians to fulfill all tasks and responsibilities of a Lead Technician
Proactively oversee and lead job site organization and basic housekeeping maintenance
Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor in both internal and customer relations
Excel in technical tasks such as testing and troubleshooting
Be proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, etc.)
Exhibit and maintain a professional appearance and behavior
This position is generally expected to require minimal overnight travel (5%) in certain regions; however, it could require frequent (50%+) overnight and extended out-of-town travel in others
The individual in this role should be able and willing to travel as required by E2

Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED required
OSHA 30 certification required within the first 2 weeks in role
BICSI Certified Technician – must be earned within 12 months in role
Minimum 2–5 years of work experience in structured cabling or related industry/construction
Ability to read, write, and understand English
Able to distinguish color codes
Ability to understand and effectively explain every aspect of the structured cabling system, including: Pathways and spaces, Horizontal cabling, Backbone copper and fiber optic, Cross- and inter-connections, Testing procedures
Understanding of applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices, with the ability to differentiate between them and make recommendations
Ability to choose the correct tools and methodologies for tasks and assist team members in doing the same
Ability to listen carefully and follow instructions
Demonstrated aptitude for learning from senior team members
High attention to detail with the ability to source and follow standards
Ability to meet deadlines
Proficient in time management and job site organization
Self-motivated with a strong work ethic
Solid team player with a positive attitude
Willingness to work days, nights, and weekends as project requires
Demonstrated accountability for safety, quality, and productivity
Ability to motivate team members to work effectively in versatile environments
