SUPERVISORY ATTORNEY-ADVISER (GENERAL)
The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) is seeking a Supervisory Attorney-Adviser in their Office of General Counsel located in Indianapolis, IN. This role involves supervising multiple attorneys and providing expert legal advice on complex military and civilian pay law matters.

Responsibilities
Serves as the Assistant Deputy General Counsel (ADGC) in the Military Pay and Civilian Pay (MCP) Law Directorate, DFAS OGC, supporting the Deputy General Counsel (DGC), MCP Law
Serves as a first-line supervisor for the MCP Law Directorate, supervising multiple attorneys and a paralegal. Assigns and reviews work, conducts performance appraisals for subordinates, and assists the DGC
Develops guidelines and a general framework for the formulation of office policies, plans, and programs to ensure the effective conduct of the mission and functions assigned to the OGC, MCP
Performs the full range of personnel duties associated with supervision such as performance management, leave approval, training, position management, time and attendance reporting, etc. for the OGC
Provides subject matter expert legal advice on MCP Law matters on complex and precedent setting legal issues related to military pay and entitlement, civilian pay and benefits, retired and annuity pay, debt collection and federal income taxation
Reviews and provides feedback to attorneys on work product
Confers with and counsels staff elements and chiefs of operating directorates and their representatives; represents the Office of General Counsel at meetings

Required
Must be a U.S Citizen or National
This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination
Registered for Selective Service (males born after 12-31-1959)
Suitable for Federal employment
New employees to the Defense Finance and Accounting Service will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
Assignments require the first professional law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) and active membership in the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia
In addition, the attorney shall have professional legal experience in excess of 3 years that is commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position
