Patient Care Associate (Health Equity for Adolescents in the Legal System Program)

Responsibilities
Implement Patient Care protocols including: vital signs, specimen collection, PPD placement and/or reading, hearing and vision testing as directed
Follow and demonstrate strict infection control guidelines to ensure proper clinic environment
Assist clinicians/providers during patient evaluations as needed, including acting as chaperone
Perform phlebotomy
Administer PPD's as ordered and as needed
Obtain and process laboratory specimens, per protocols
Review chart prior to patient’s departure for follow-up appointments, prescriptions and/or referrals
Communicate with scheduling departments to coordinate external health care appointments
Ensure that all patients have been assessed and have understanding of all instructions prior to leaving the clinic
Participate with clinical staff for in-service training, to ensure that nursing staff functions meet quality improvement standards
Attend supervision, conferences, and agency meetings as directed
Implement recommendations from the Quality Improvement Team and Infection Control Committee, as requested
Dispose of medical and hazardous waste, as per OSHA guidelines and clinic protocols
Maintains temperature log books, medication inventory logs of lab and PPD log, quality control logs including for and CLIA-waived labs
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization
Successful completion of training courses including the performance of phlebotomy and electrocardiography (EKG), or completion of a training program or programs that include the performance of phlebotomy and EKG, such as Phlebotomy Technician and EKG Technician training programs, a Patient Care training program, or a Medical Assistant training program
Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA)
Assignment to a long-term care facility requires New York State Nurse's Aide certification
Preferred
Position will be located at sites in Brooklyn and the Bronx
