Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive merchant underwriting assessments, evaluating credit risk, business viability, and compliance requirements
Perform calculation of the financial risk exposure and the relevant risk mitigation measures
Communicate merchant risk profiles and underwriting decisions to bank partners and stakeholders to support smooth onboarding
Collaborate with Sales, Product, Legal, and Operations teams to refine underwriting criteria and support new product launches
Serve as a point of contact for merchants regarding underwriting requirements, compliance standards, and product eligibility
Analyze merchant transaction patterns and business models to identify potential risks, fraud vectors, and opportunities
Maintain documentation of underwriting decisions and provide reporting on key metrics to drive continuous improvement
Support the development of scalable underwriting processes and tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy
Qualification
Required
5+ years of experience in Payment Risk Management, Merchant Underwriting, or Transaction Fraud Prevention
Background in payments, merchant acquiring, fintech, e-commerce, or related financial services
Strong understanding of payment networks, chargeback management, and merchant credit risk assessment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain complex risk concepts to both internal teams and external merchants
Investigative mindset with strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Experience with merchant support via email and phone for payment or risk-related inquiries
Preferred
Experience in high-growth fintech or payments startups
Familiarity with emerging business models such as crypto, digital marketplaces, or AI-powered services
Experience building or supporting complex payment products and merchant solutions
