Department Chair

Responsibilities

Develop a strategic vision and defining the Department’s mission and vision statements consistent with the College of Veterinary Medicine’s and University of Georgia’s plans
Provide day-to day guidance for the department through scheduling, conducting faculty meetings, establishing committees as needed, ensuring quality instruction and assessment
Communication with Dean regarding departmental needs, challenges and successes
Effective management of the Departmental budget and financial records
Effective management of space and equipment

Qualification

Earned doctorateResearch productivityTeaching experienceAdministrative experienceCommunication skills

Required

Earned doctorate (DVM, MD, and/or PhD) from an accredited institution in a relevant field
Successful researcher in terms of scholarly productivity
Successful teacher and/or mentor in fields related to physiology, pharmacology, toxicology or neuroscience
Qualifications for rank at the Associate or Full Professor level or equivalent
Strong written and oral communication skills

Preferred

Administrative involvement at the departmental or higher level is highly desirable
Active productive research program
