Responsibilities

Performs subprofessional and professional engineering work by participating in the implementation of the City's Capital Improvement Program (CIP)
Supervises and participates in the development and revision of plans and specifications for the development of various projects including roadway design, site development, land development, traffic signals, neighborhood traffic calming, and pedestrian and bicycle facilities
Supervises and participates in the development and revision of plans and specifications for construction projects related to water utility, street, storm drain and sanitary sewer pump stations, street lighting, traffic signal, buildings, and related public works and City building projects
Works with consultant engineers and other agency representatives on private and public projects; research project design requirements, building codes, publications, and industry information
Performs complex calculations and prepares estimates of material costs and time considerations; assists in the solution of difficult problems; investigates field problems affecting property owners, contractors, and maintenance operations; prepares estimates and feasibility reports for new or modified services and structures
Participates in the plan check, review, and processing of plans for private developments affecting streets, sewers, drains and related public works facilities and ensures that they meet all City imposed requirements; checks building plans for compliance with City building codes and ordinances

Required

Equivalent to the completion of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in civil engineering or a related field
Possession of a valid Engineer-In-Training Certificate with the State of California
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license
One (1) year of technical engineering experience is desirable
Basic operations, services, and activities of a municipal engineering design and construction program
Methods, materials, and techniques used in the design, construction, and maintenance/operation of public works and utilities programs and activities
Basic surveying, drafting, computer-aided design and modeling techniques and technology
Current developments and trends related to professional public works engineering
Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
English usage, spelling, punctuation and grammar
Basic principles of business correspondence
Occupational health and safety standards
Basic contract management and administration
Basic real estate and right of way acquisition procedures
Perform professional engineering computations and learn to check, design, and prepare engineering plans, studies, profiles, and maps
Intermittently analyze work papers, reports and special projects
Identify and interpret technical and numerical information
Observe and problem solve operational and technical policy and procedures
Learn and understand City standards and regulations and engineering policies and procedures
Learn applicable laws and regulations related to the area of assignment
Learn to prepare accurate cost estimates and make related recommendations
Learn to analyze and prepare technical reports
Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
Provide high quality, economical services to the Rancho Cordova community, placing emphasis on responsive customer service
Maintain integrity of work by taking responsibility and accountability for completion of work and customer interactions
Maintain attention to detail by prioritizing work and coordinating several activities simultaneously despite interruptions
Maintain punctuality and attendance at work
Effectively contribute collaboratively to a team effort
Demonstrate a civic entrepreneurial spirit by generating new, innovative ideas and developing better methods to accomplish tasks and complete projects
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Preferred

Capital Improvement Project specific experience is highly desirable
Experience in delivering capital improvement projects, solving engineering related challenges, construction management skills, and communicating with engineering consultants
