Assistant Vice President and Controller

Cottey College is seeking an Assistant Vice President Controller to oversee its accounting operations and financial reporting. This role involves supervising the Business Office, ensuring compliance with internal controls, and preparing financial statements in accordance with GAAP.

Responsibilities

Supervise the staff accountant, accounting and payroll manager, and accounting support specialist
Prepare monthly account reconciliation and related journal entries
Review and post monthly journal entries and maintain the general ledger
Review other financial information used in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
Maintain the college endowment unitization through the endowment management software Fundriver
Monitor the internal control structure, improving as necessary, and ensure compliance throughout the college
Coordinate the annual financial and retirement audits, along with associated returns
Review and monitor actual performance versus the budget
Forecast revenues, expenditures, and year-end balances
Assist in the development of special reports for use by the Presidents Council, Board of Trustees, and leadership of P.E.O. International
Perform related duties as required or assigned for the effective operation of the college

Required

Bachelor's or higher degree in Accounting, with preference given to CPA certification and/or MBA
Five years of progressively responsible experience in accounting; should have served three years in a supervisory capacity
Thorough knowledge of and expertise with the principles, practices, and techniques of non-profit fund accounting and budgeting
Proficiency with accounting software applications and above average Excel user
Ability to develop, implement, maintain, and monitor computerized systems
Must be able to understand, interpret, and implement policies and procedures
Skilled at hiring, supervising, and developing staff members
Establish priorities, work independently, and accomplish objectives in a timely manner
Problem solver
Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and faculty
Effective written and verbal skills

Preferred

CPA certification and/or MBA
Experience with Jenzabar J1 and PowerBI
