Research Computer Scientist
USAJOBS is seeking a Research Computer Scientist to support the Veterans Health Administration's Office of Research and Development. The role involves managing and analyzing data to promote Veteran-centered care and improve healthcare outcomes without compensation.

Responsibilities
Access and manage data from the VA Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and associated data warehouses
Organize data, clean and preprocess data, addressing missing values, outliers, and inconsistencies
Conduct descriptive analyses to summarize characteristics of the study population and identify trends
Apply inferential statistical methods to identify clinical, demographic, and psychosocial risk factors associated with disease
Help apply natural language processing system to extract social determinants of health from electronic health record (EHR)
Qualification
Required
U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)
Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP)
You must possess experience in research and development of Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning algorithms; analyzing the performance of predictive models on patient data and accessing patients' records following HIPAA guidelines
You must possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus
A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications
