The State of Missouri is seeking an Engineering Field Intern (Geotechnical Specialist) to assist in planning and executing geotechnical investigations for structures. The role involves supporting geotechnical specialists, learning to log borings, and preparing soil samples for testing, among other responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Assist geotechnical specialists and drilling crews during geotechnical investigations for structures and roadways; gain exposure to developing and executing drilling plans for geotechnical investigations

Learn the process of logging borings, collecting and preparing soil samples for testing in our Central Laboratory; gain exposure to performing field soil and rock tests on samples gathered

Exposure to evaluating, organizing, and preparing field and laboratory test results for geotechnical reports, while gaining exposure to geotechnical software such as Plog, gINT, KeyLAB, Slide2, etc

Perform Atterberg limits, compaction standards, direct shear tests, consolidation tests and unconfined compressive strength testing

Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned

Required

Enrolled in a relevant bachelor's or post-bachelor's degree program full-time (12+ credit hours)

30 credit hours completed/accepted toward current degree program. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply

Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent

Job requires heavy physical exertion and effort

This position will work primarily outside and will require exposure to all outdoor elements
